Rising up like an imposing castle, the Alhambra is a mighty compound
of buildings of the Moorish monarchs of Granada, in southern Spain.
Built in the 14th century, it stands at the foot of Spain's highest
mountain range, the Sierra Nevada, and overlooks the city of Granada.
At the centre of the Alhambra stands the massive Palace of Charles V,
an outstanding example of Spanish Renaissance architecture. Alhambra
captivates all by the special combination of its slender columnar arcades,
fountains, and light-reflecting water basins found in the courtyards,
the Lion Court in particular. It is considered as a must-see for those
          visiting Spain.
